Record ₹45,650 Crore IPO Anchor Investments in 2024: FIIs and MFs Lead the Way

In 2024, Indian companies raised a record ₹45,650 crore from big investors during IPOs (Initial Public Offerings). This is the highest amount ever seen in the IPO market. Big players like Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and Mutual Funds (MFs) made this happen with their huge investments.

FIIs’ Investment Hits a High

FIIs invested ₹25,300 crore in IPOs this year, the most since 2021 when they had put ₹29,000 crore into the market.

Mutual Funds Set a New Record

Mutual Funds invested ₹20,351 crore in 2024, setting a new record for themselves. Their previous highest was ₹13,528 crore in 2021. This year, MFs invested three times more money compared to last year.

Combined Investments Soar

FIIs and MFs together invested more than three times the amount they did last year. However, FIIs outperformed MFs in total investments this year. This hasn’t happened in the last two years, as MFs usually invested more than FIIs.

SEBI’s Role in the Success of IPOs

In 2009, SEBI introduced the idea of “anchor investors”. These are big investors who put in money early in IPOs. Their investments make others feel confident, increasing demand and trust in the IPO process.

2024 has set a new benchmark for the IPO market. With FIIs and MFs playing a key role, the year saw record-breaking investments and the highest-ever IPO fundraising in India. This remarkable performance shows the growing trust of big investors in Indian companies.
